APSA Postgraduate Conference Bursary

APSA Postgraduate Conference Bursary are offered to assist postgraduate participation in the APSA Annual Conference.

APSA provides up to six travel awards each year (with a maximum of $1,200 each) to assist postgraduate students with meeting the cost of attending the APSA annual conference.

Applications for 2023 round should be submitted (via email) to the APSA National Office (arts-ssps-apsa@unimelb.edu.au) by 5pm on Friday 15 September 2023 (Melbourne time). Typically, applicants will receive notification of the outcome within a month of the closing date for applications. The application form can be downloaded from here: Application form.

Selection Criteria:

Postgraduate travel awards will be determined on the basis of the following criteria:

  1. Applicants must be a current financial member of APSA at the time of applying for the Award.
  2. The amount granted is intended to assist with travel expenses, accommodation and registration fees up to the overall cap and the individual cap for each expenditure item, as outlined in the application form.
  3. Applicants are expected to attend the APSA Pre-Conference Workshop for Postgraduate Students.
  4. Applicants must be presenting an accepted paper at the conference.
  5. Applicants must have sought funding support from their home Department or School.
  6. Priority will be determined on a needs basis.
  7. Priority will be given to postgraduates who have not previously been awarded travel or other financial support from APSA.

Judging Process:

  • Applications will be assessed by members of the APSA Executive.
  • The Selection Committee reserves the right to consult with appropriate assessors.
  • Successful applicants will be notified prior to the conference and be reimbursed following the conference upon submission of all relevant receipts to the APSA National Office.
  • In applying for funding, applicants agree that their names can be published on the APSA website, in the APSA Newsletter and elsewhere unless they notify the National Office otherwise. If awarded a bursary, applicants also agree to submit a brief report (can opt out) on their conference experience and what receiving the bursary meant to their studies, to be published in APSA publications.
