Using LLMs for text analysis

Abstract

This panel demonstrates how large language models (LLMs) are transforming the study of politics, public discourse, and democratic governance. The four papers use advanced LLMs to investigate the relationship between illiberal discourse and democratic decline, compare how governments frame artificial intelligence in national strategies, analyse parliamentary debates on Australia's housing crisis and patterns of political representation, and improve the transparency of expert-based democracy measurement in V-Dem.
