About

The Quantitative Methods Research Group (QMRG) brings together political science researchers and students in Australia and internationally who develop, apply, or are interested in applying quantitative empirical methods across all areas of political science.

Our activities include organising quantitative-methods panels at APSA annual meetings, the Quantitative Methods Award (Quant*), Quantitative Methods Clinics for Graduate Students, the annual Quantitative Methods Workshop (usually held in June) and online seminars throughout the year. We also maintain an email list through which members can share announcements, seek methodological advice, and identify potential collaborators.

Our work is guided by four core goals:

  1. To strengthen networks, connections, and synergies within this community, fostering collaboration and exchange across institutions and researchers at different career stages;
  2. To enhance the participation of quantitative researchers and students in APSA conferences and to encourage cross-methods dialogue within the broader APSA academic community.
  3. To advance the development, applications and teaching of quantitative methods in political science across Australian universities, including their integration into both undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
  4. To create opportunities for students and early career researchers to engage with experienced quantitative researchers.

We welcome members at all levels of quantitative methods experience—from those taking their first steps in quantitative analysis to scholars working with advanced techniques.

We particularly encourage women and members of underrepresented groups, at any stage of their PhD or academic career to become in the Group’s activities.

Membership is free and open to all APSA members.
