Abstract

This chapter offers a reinterpretation of Australia’s identity politics during 2020–2025, showing how identity contestation has moved from being a largely domestic debate to a central force shaping foreign policy conduct. The inclusively layered identity model provides a constructive lens for managing ongoing identity conflicts and suggests that, if properly integrated, Australia’s multiple identities can strengthen rather than weaken its foreign policy capacity in an increasingly complex international environment.
