Call for Papers - Political Organisations and Participation APSA Research Group Annual Workshop

7 April, 2025

The annual POP workshop is a great place to present work in progress and test your new ideas in a supportive and collegial environment. We welcome attendance and active participation from scholars at any level.

Venue: The workshop will be held at the University of Canberra, Bruce Campus

Dates: Thursday 5 – Friday 6 June, 2025

Funding: This workshop has been partially funded by APSA support for specialist groups. Limited financial support is available to assist with travel and accommodation for PhD candidates and ECRs[1] coming from outside Canberra.

Please indicate if you would like to request financial support when you submit your abstract.

Workshop format: Each session will have up to four presenters, with 15-minute presentations followed by 30-minutes for Q&A. The workshop will follow a single session format to ensure all presenters gain the full benefit of constructive feedback from all attending colleagues.

In addition to the individual paper presentations, there will be a roundtable discussion on “intellectual inspirations”. This session will bring a panel of scholars from various career stages to discuss their inspirations and approaches to academic work.

Abstracts: Please email short abstracts (maximum 150 words) and title of proposed papers in Word or similar format by to jordan.mcswiney@canberra.edu.au 7 April 5pm. You will be notified by 14 April as to whether your paper has been accepted.

Mentoring: To support the development of PhD candidate and ECR research, a paper mentorship program is available to PhD and ECR presenters who wish to submit a full paper. A mentor from the group will read your paper in full and provide feedback to help support the research toward publication. Full papers will be due roughly 3 weeks prior to the workshop, but final dates will be decided once numbers are confirmed.

Contact: For further information and to submit abstracts please contact: Jordan McSwiney (jordan.mcswiney@canberra.edu.au)
